What our Volunteers Say
“I am a new Volunteer at We Are Listening and so far, I have enjoyed talking to someone who sounded vulnerable at first, but after engaging with them a few times I could hear a tinkle in their voice. And this is why I love what I do.”
Mary Kim
“I’ve been volunteering as a befriender for over a year, and it has been a truly rewarding experience. Although my befriendee’s circumstances haven’t changed very much, I’ve come to realise that sometimes what matters most is simply knowing that someone is there to listen.
We’ve shared difficult conversations, talked through struggles, and laughed together more times than I can count. Even though we’ve never met in person, the connection we’ve built feels genuine and deeply personal. I care about them very much, and I look forward to our conversations each week.
I hope that hearing a familiar voice, having a space to be heard, and knowing that someone genuinely cares has helped them feel a little less alone. Volunteering has shown me how powerful human connection can be, and how much difference it can make just to be there for someone”.
Vanessa Gandarinho
“It was interesting and meaningful, allowing me to help others while also helping myself feel valued”.
