Helping You
Referrals
Would you or a relative or a friend be interested in gaining the benefits of the We Are Listening befriending services?
If you feel trapped and isolated, vulnerable and low on confidence, then a regular communication with a befriender can help build confidence in meeting others and boost your wellbeing. Our befrienders establish a caring relationship, getting clients to show interest in the outside world, try new things and have a sense of belonging.
Our Good Call telephone service offers a weekly call for up to one hour with a volunteer befriender who will provide a friendly listening ear to boost morale, understand and help with daily issues, and to contact other agencies if needed. The volunteer will be matched as far as possible with similar interests to you and this leads to interesting conversations and lasting friendships. The service is anonymous with client and befriender just sharing name and telephone numbers.
Some people prefer to be contacted by mail rather than on the telephone. Our Postbox service provides regular communications by post with a letter 2 or 3 times a month. Again, the intention is to boost wellbeing through friendly communications and to pick up on any issues which may be worrying you. The service is also anonymous with all letters being mailed to and from the We Are Listening office.
We have had early success with client feedback being very positive.
Typical comments have been:
“You have been a Godsend – I look forward very much to your call next week…” ,
“I have joined a local arts club and I am making new friends…”
“I have taken up a small allotment and starting to do gardening again…”
