Our Services

Breakfast in the Community

Breakfast in the Community brings people together over free breakfast, live music and friendly conversation in welcoming community spaces.

Delivered in partnership between Community in Good Hands and We Are Listening, the sessions offer a relaxed, stigma-free way for people to connect with others and feel part of their community.

Everyone is welcome. People simply drop in, enjoy breakfast, listen to local musicians and spend time with others. No referrals or sign-ups are required.

Why We Run It

Loneliness and isolation can affect anyone, yet many people feel uncomfortable seeking formal support. These gatherings provide natural social connection through shared food, music and conversation.

Supporting Local Community

Breakfast in the Community also supports the local economy by employing local musicians and working with local bakeries to provide fresh breakfast for attendees, making each event a true community effort.

Looking Ahead

With funding secured for the next 18 months, we are building regular gatherings that strengthen community connection and wellbeing over time.

Good food. Good music. Good company.

Good Call Programme

Our Good Call programme provides volunteer telephone befrienders who make weekly telephone calls providing companionship, social interaction and support to someone who is socially isolated and lonely and who may have no one else they feel they can talk to.

On completion of an initial onboarding and training process, volunteer telephone befrienders are carefully matched with a service user and make a weekly ‘phone call for a friendly chat, providing a listening ear, companionship and additional support where needed through known health or social services agencies.

Bright Spark: Bringing Joy Through Art & Letters

Participants send handwritten letters, drawings, and creative cards to older adults, offering them a sense of connection and joy.

This simple yet meaningful gesture combats social isolation, improves wellbeing, and reminds care home residents that they are valued and remembered.

Why It Matters:

  • Reduces Loneliness – A thoughtful letter or artwork can brighten someone’s day.
  • Boosts Wellbeing – Small gestures of kindness can uplift moods and create meaningful connections.
  • Celebrates Creativity & Inclusion – Encourages self-expression while fostering community support.

Postbox Programme

Our Postbox programme provides volunteer pen pals who write letters to service users who share similar interests and who enjoy writing and receiving personal letters. Receiving a handwritten letter or postcard can really brighten someone’s day, providing a vital link for someone who is lonely and socially isolated.

More than 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, and more than a million older people say they go over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member.  People can become socially isolated in different ways; family moving away, retirement, losing a spouse or friends, or through poor health.

Whatever the cause, it is easy to be left feeling alone and vulnerable which can lead to depression, loss of confidence and ultimately a decline in health and wellbeing.  For reasons of independence or pride, lonely people can find it hard to reach out and ask for help.

We set out to achieve the following measurable client outcomes:
  • The ability to cope better with challenging situations and/or to engage with health and social care support services.
  • Re-established social relationships and more activity outside the home.
  • Extended independence.
  • Enjoying a higher quality of life.
